A traditional craftsman keeping the old traditions of stone carving alive.
Working with traditional tools to produce unique natural stone sculptures.
Welcome
Born in rural Lancashire England. I was surrounded by the local sandstone in the form of stone houses and dry stone walls this brought out what became a fascination with natural stone. I began working with stone at the age of 13, working alongside my father repairing gaps in the dry stone walls.
At age 26 I attended a carving institute in Rossendale, Lancashire under the guidance of master carver Clive Howarth.
I find that I am influenced by many things; European Mythology, Gothic Architecture, Celtic and Norse Designs and the Medieval Period. All give me inspiration to form many of my sculptures. My pieces can develop from an abstract idea brought on by the natural shape of the stone or working from a more specific concept or design.
I use traditional methods and tools which have evolved very little over the centuries. Carving my pieces entirely out of natural stone (the sedimentary rocks of limestone and sandstone) to produce truly hand carved unique art.
